Some things just don’t translate well over text—like tone, nuance, or that ‘aha’ moment you need to get your point across. Yet, we’re stuck in a loop of endless emails, pings, and meetings. ClickUp Clips changes that by bringing video messaging into your workflow, making communication clearer, faster, and more human.
As we explore our favorite productivity platform, we’ve already broken down a suite of powerful tools, new ClickUp features, and the AI-driven rollout of ClickUp Brain. In our ultimate ClickUp guide, we explored the rollout of ClickUp 3.0, and the introduction of AI. With our deep-dive into Chat, we looked at AI agents, chat summaries, and connected tasks, while Whiteboards 3.0 delivered insights into an all new interface, dark-mode, and the impending introduction of AI-generated projects.
Now, we turn to one of our favourite features: Clips.
We’ve seen firsthand how Clips transforms communication—making it easier to share insights without leaving ClickUp. Instead of long messages, we use Clips to explain ideas visually, adding clarity to tasks. With AI-generated transcripts, Clips becomes even more powerful, allowing for timestamped comments that keep conversations focused. As ClickUp consultants, we’ve helped businesses integrate ClickUp Clips into their workflows through task descriptions and chat embeds. Now, after using it successfully ourselves and seeing its impact on others, we’re excited to help you do the same!
We’ve touched on what this powerful tool can do, but what exactly is it? If we were to summarize it for you, we could say that Clips is ClickUp’s own version of Loom—a built-in screen recording feature for recording videos. However, unlike Loom, Clips lives in your productivity tool, seamlessly complementing your communication and collaboration efforts. ClickUp Clips 3.0 then takes it one step further with the introduction of AI transcription, improved search functionality, and comprehensive task integrations, ensuring that recordings easily integrate into your workflows. I mean, wow!
As a certified ClickApp, Clips can be found in two locations: One, beneath your workspace name in the left-hand sidebar; or two, next to your personal avatar in the top right of your screen. In both locations, Clips can be pinned for easy access and visibility. To create a Clip, select the “Clip" icon, navigate to “New Clip” in the top right of your screen, and select “Start Recording”. Alternatively, select the “Clip" icon in the top right corner of your screen and click on the “Start recording” button to proceed. You’ll then be asked whether you would like to share your “Tab”, “Window”, or “Entire Screen” before the recording begins.
Once recorded, Clips are automatically transcribed with timestamps for easy navigation. Click into a Clip and select “transcript” on your right to access the full audio transcript. If you’d like a summary of the video, select the “summarize” button for an informative AI-generated summary.
When it comes to sharing Clips, you can simply embed them in tasks, comments, messages, docs etc. Alternatively, you can share a link externally, or download the Clip for external use.
The beauty of an internal ClickUp screen recording tool is the ability to create and share videos in real time. With Clips, workspace members can record and share videos explaining issues, outlining ideas, and establishing workflows, without having to leave the platform.
What’s more, with the ability to share your tab, window, or entire screen, you’re not confined to your workspace. Switch over to an external document to add additional context to tasks, chats, or wherever else you are working.
Clips are designed to integrate seamlessly into your workflow. You can embed recordings in task descriptions, comments, messages, docs, and more—ensuring clear communication across all your channels.
Audio transcription adds context to your Clips, enabling you to identify key points. AI summaries go one step further, producing insightful Clip summaries with the simple click of a button.
Clearer Communication
Instead of ill-explained ideas over hasty text messages, video recordings leverage the power of visual aids to complement communication, allowing team members to see the exact concept you are talking about.
Increased Efficiency
Do away with wasted time spent drafting long-winded messages. Clips enables you to easily send in-depth messages, replies, or general ideas with the added benefit of visual aids—saving you time in the long run.
Searchable Clips
You can now search through Clip transcripts without sitting through the entire video, ensuring that you find the vital nuggets of information without wasting time unnecessarily. Additionally, with transcripts forming part of AI brain’s information hub, you can enlist the help of AI to retrieve any important information from your collection of Clips. It’s as easy as navigating to the search bar at the top of your screen and typing in what you’re looking for. In response, AI brain will comb through your entire workspace, including your clip transcripts, to deliver insightful results.
Explain Concepts
Team members no longer have to worry about communication breakdown. With Clips, you can clearly outline and explain tasks, ideas, and designs to make sure your team is on the same page! Whenever Upficient introduces a new workflow, we create a comprehensive Clip outlining all the intricacies. This allows us to quickly and easily get our team up to speed, ensuring no dips in productivity.
Feedback & Collaboration
Clips make collaboration seamless with time-stamped comments, action items, and easy embedding across ClickUp. Simply select a Clip, click the “Add comment” icon, and provide feedback in context. Plus, with a unique sharing link, you can embed Clips anywhere in your workspace for effortless communication.
AI Transcription
With AI transcription you can quickly access video highlights, extracting text snippets to be used across your workspace where relevant. In doing so, you’re able to identify key ideas without sharing the entire recording.
Clips Hub
Your Clips are stored in the Clips Hub —a library of all of the clips you have recorded. To access the Clips Hub, navigate to the “Clips” icon in your sidebar. Click on the “Clips” icon to be directed to a catalogue of all of your recorded clips.
Search and Sort
You can sort your Clips by “Date Created”, in ascending or descending order. You can also change the layout of your Clips and search for individual Clips by name. Establishing an insightful naming convention for your recordings is a great way to make them easier to find.
All Plans
Clips are available on all payment plans; however, they do eat away at the 100 MB of free storage provided to free-forever users.
Workspace Members
While guest users can access Clips embedded in tasks, comments etc, they cannot access the Clips Hub or record their own Clips. This feature is reserved for workspace members.
ClickUp Brain Integration
Need to find that all-important sentence from a video you recently watched, but can’t seem to find the right clip? No problem! With the integration of AI brain, the platform's AI will comb through your entire Hub of Clip transcripts to find what you’re looking for!
One-Click Sharing
When you finish recording, Clips automatically uploads to the Clips Hub—a pop-up icon giving you the option to copy the link for external sharing. Copy this link for effortless sharing within ClickUp or externally.
AI Summaries
In the same way that a flurry of messages in a chat, or a long thread of messages, can cost you time, long-winded clips can undermine your productivity. Thankfully, much like chat and thread summaries, AI brain produces comprehensive Clip summaries, making it possible to extract all of the essential information from a video without ever having to watch it.
In this increasingly digital world, where remote work, and dispersed teams, seem to be a persisting reality, communication has grown more complex. You can’t just pop over to a colleagues desk and get their opinion. What’s more, drawn-out messages are cumbersome, while virtual meetings are typically quite hard to coordinate. Clips, on the other hand, offer the simplicity of messaging with all the added benefits of video. Able to facilitate efficient, effective communication, Clips appeal to a diverse range of teams and use cases.
More often than not starting a new job is incredibly overwhelming. Despite the rigorous explanations of our new role, we can often miss a detail or three amidst all the newness of a fresh gig. Video demos give new team members the chance to be onboarded at their own pace, pausing where necessary to avoid confusion, and ensuring a more streamlined onboarding process. This feature is especially useful for remote teams, allowing businesses to create comprehensive onboarding videos to quickly onboard new employees from afar.
So you missed that important project progress meeting, or didn’t quite articulate your idea the way you wanted? No problem! With Clips, you can easily circle back, providing comprehensive project updates with the added help of visual aids to better explain your ideas or processes.

We go so far as to record demo videos on each of the lists that we create within a clients’ workspace, outlining the unique workflow associated with it. In doing so, we’re able to provide incredible clarity across a clients’ workspace.
Clips are an extremely powerful communication tool when used correctly. They can deliver comprehensive insights efficiently, providing greater context without wasting time. In order to leverage the full power of this ClickUp feature, it’s important to take note of some best practices:
Be Clear and Concise
Just because you don’t have to type it out, doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be concise. It’s always best to have a clear understanding of your message before clicking record to make sure you’re clear and to the point.
Quality over Quantity
Let’s not throw the baby out with the bathwater! While Clips are a great way to explain complex ideas or technical workflows, they shouldn’t be your go-to for every small task. An old fashioned written message or comment is still a great option for those simpler scenarios.
Recording Environment
A noisy background or a grainy audio can present as unprofessional. Make sure to record your Clips in a quiet environment to ensure clear audio. If you’re wearing headphones, check that you’ve got an appropriate microphone for clear sound.
Use AI Transcription
With comprehensive transcripts of every Clip in your library, it’s easy to outline important information. Make use of AI’s audio transcription to quickly reference vital content.
Provide Context with Comments
For greater clarity and context, make use of the comments feature. This feature enables you to elaborate on and outline key moments in your recording. This will help you bring your team members attention to the things that matter most!
Turn Clips into Tasks
It’s one thing collaborating using Clips, it’s another ensuring that these discussions are converted into actionable tasks. Create action items or tasks to ensure that Clips lead to measurable actions.
Whether it’s with remote team members, across departments, or directly to clients, Clips are a great way to level-up your communication.
Marrying the simplicity of messages, with the power of virtual meetings, Clips allows you to provide in-depth insights in an instant. And the integration of AI brain takes things the extra mile!
